Hartbeespoort Dam Wall

The perfect combination of design and photometric performance with energy savings of up to 70%

Hartbeespoort Dam (also known as Harties) is an arch type dam situated in the North West Province of South Africa.

In 1923, the building of the dam wall was complete and the road over the wall of the Dam and through the tunnel was opened to traffic. The dam wall is 149.5 metres long, built across a gorge cutting through the Magaliesberg. A single-laned road skirts the water's edge on the north side; along its route it passes through a 56.6m long tunnel and also crosses the dam wall.

We were approached in 2019 to supply the ZELA 55W street lighting for this historic dam wall. This lighting solution would not only be cost effective, but also suit the ambiance of the environment.

This modern luminaire is characterised by its distinct flat and conical diffuser, made possible by incorporating LED technology. This compactness is coupled with a careful design that harmoniously integrates both functionality and finish. For instance, the fins on the base section add a certain elegance by continuing the flow of the pole. The ZELA emits a pleasant, low glare light, making it perfect for driving over the dam bridge in the evenings.

We locally develop and manufacture energy-efficient LED lighting products, designed and suitable for local conditions. We are very proud to be associated in providing a successful outdoor lighting solution for this project.
