Exxaro Grootegeluk Expansion Project

Linear LED luminaire with a robust design improves operations with lower energy consumption and reduced carbon emissions for mining area

The Grootegeluk Coal Mine is an open cast coal mine within the Waterberg Coalfield of the Limpopo province of South Africa. This mine has an estimated minable coal reserve of 3 261Mt and a total measured coal resource of 4 719Mt, from which semi-soft coking coal, thermal coal and metallurgical coal can be produced.

Everything EXXARO does today is geared towards ensuring a safer and more productive tomorrow. In their efforts to increase their sustainable footprint, Grootegeluk Coal mine needed an energy-efficient lighting solution close to their conveyer belts.

We provided the client with the BEKA LEDBEAM, a high performing linear LED luminaire that is slim in design and has a wide distributing optic that ensures that the walkway next to the conveyor belts and maintenance roads in between have sufficient light and complies with EXXARO and SANS technical specifications.

The LEDBEAM housing is robustly constructed from corrosion-resistant aluminium which ensures the luminaires’ long-lasting performance, even when exposed to extremely harsh environments, such as those found in mines and industry.

We locally develop and manufacture energy-efficient LED lighting products, designed and suitable for local conditions. It was a pleasure working together with LSL Consulting and Craig Miller Technical Services in providing and energy-efficient lighting solution for this project. They were well organised and very provisional which caused this project to be completed on time, without any complications.
