Smart LED sports lighting for an enhanced viewing experience
We are proud to have supplied the smart LED floodlighting solution for Hoërskool Stellenbosch’s Astro Hockey Field in the Western Cape, South Africa.
Hoërskool Stellenbosch, a well-established co-educational Afrikaans public school in Stellenbosch, required an effective floodlighting solution for its Astro Hockey Field. Having previously supplied the lighting and control solution for the school’s athletics track, we were once again selected to deliver this latest upgrade.
To meet the project requirements, we supplied locally designed and manufactured OMNIBLAST-E MIDI LED floodlights, chosen for their high local content and superior performance. The installation is controlled via the Schréder ITERRA sports lighting control system.

Smart Lighting Solution
The lighting for the Astro Hockey Field is controlled by the Schréder ITERRA sports lighting control solution using DMX drivers. This complete, user- and installer-friendly wireless control solution provides site managers with a robust, cost-effective and future-ready platform to manage their lighting infrastructure with maximum flexibility.
The system uses wireless node technology to create a secure mesh network between luminaires, allowing devices to communicate intelligently across the installation without the need for extensive control cabling. This scalable network architecture enhances reliability, simplifies installation and maintenance, and ensures seamless communication across the entire sports field.
Using DMX (Digital Multiplex) control technology, each luminaire or luminaire group can be individually addressed for precise dimming, zoning and scene setting. This enables lighting levels to be instantly adapted for training sessions, matches, broadcast requirements or special events, while fast refresh rates and synchronised switching ensure reliable performance across the entire field. The result is improved operational flexibility, enhanced user experience and maximised energy savings.
As a mobile app-based system, Schréder ITERRA is simple to operate and can also be managed remotely via a gateway device. Its intuitive visual interface can be quickly customised to the customer’s specific requirements, providing complete control over the lighting installation.
High-Quality Floodlighting
Manufactured in South Africa, the OMNIBLAST is a high-performance floodlighting solution ideal for sports venues and large outdoor areas requiring maximum efficiency and flexibility. Available in MIDI and MAXI variants, it is an energy-efficient alternative to traditional 400W to 2000W HID fittings.
Its modular optical design allows for customised light distributions and lumen outputs to suit a wide range of applications, from general area lighting to recreational sports facilities and professional broadcast-level venues. The OMNIBLAST-E also delivers excellent glare control, high colour rendering, flicker-free performance, and a choice of cool white or neutral white LEDs to meet various sporting requirements.
