Streetlighting for Moloto Road

BEKA Schréder is proud to have supplied the LED streetlighting solution for a part of the newly upgraded Moloto Road in South Africa.

The Moloto Road Rehabilitation Project is the upgrade of the R573, a regional route in South Africa which stretches over 160km, connecting Pretoria to Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces. The road was dubbed “Moloto Road” as it passes through Moloto, located at the Gauteng-Mpumalanga border.

The notorious Moloto Road is considered to be one of the country’s most dangerous roads, prompting this highly necessary upgrade. The project included widening the road into two lanes, the erection of concrete barriers separating the opposing lanes to prevent overtaking and conversion of intersections into roundabouts to ease traffic flow. Cattle-creeps have been constructed, ensuring a safe passage for livestock, removing them from the actual road. The issue of poor visibility attributed to the high number of pedestrians hit on the road has been addressed with the erection of highmast lighting and streetlighting.
